The Aether

Floating islands over the void. Level 15 to enter, and death costs everything.

Floating cherry-blossom islands and a purpur spire tower in the PetalMC Aether
Cherry groves and a spire tower in the garden layer. Below the islands, the void.

Rules of the sky

  • Level 15 required. The icy podium refuses anyone below it.
  • Death takes everything. Your inventory is lost on any death, including the fall.
  • /spawn always works.
  • The Aether Landing is a protected sanctuary. Past its edge you are in the Aether Wilderness and the rules above apply.
  • No clan claims. Nothing up there is protected.

Layers, top to bottom

  • Celestial isles: cherry-crowned gardens far above everything. Hard to reach.
  • Garden layer: the main islands. Terraced cliffs, core caves, lakes and edge waterfalls, across cherry grove, meadow and pale garden bands.
  • Drifting shelf: smaller islands hanging below the gardens.
  • Scorched deeps: bare stone and sand, cacti and lava pools against the void.

What it holds

  • Echo crystal and relics, found nowhere else.
  • Monument chests in ruins, temples and tower vaults: diamonds, golden apples, echo crystal.
  • Spire towers up to 40 blocks tall. The vault sits on a random floor, behind breezes, vindicators and wither skeletons.
  • Stone serpents, bone spires, skeleton colossi and ruins, stranger the further you travel from the landing.

The Hunt

  • Away from the landing, something occasionally takes an interest in you. Far more often at night.
  • You hear it approach first. Then thunder, lightning, and the Aether Hunter with phantoms in tow.
  • Kill it and it always drops a relic. Dying or leaving the world ends the hunt the other way.
  • Moments of peace occur too: a minute at a time with music and nothing hostile.
  • Aether Boots (rare drop, or 4,000 gold at the guild) halve your odds of being hunted. The Aether Diadem, extremely rare, hides you from the Hunter entirely.
